The Kebbi State Government has
selected thirteen hospitals for
expansion and renovation in line
with its policy of improving health
care service delivery to the people.
This is contained in a press
statement signed by the Chief Press
Secretary to the Governor,
Abubakar Mu'azu Dakingari and
made available to kebbi social media
forum.
The Commissioner for Health, Alhaji
Usman Umar Kambaza announced
this while briefing newsmen about
the outcome of the weekly
Executive Council Meeting presided
by Governor Abubakar Atiku
Bagudu at the Government House
this Wednesday, the Commissioner
said 415.5 Million Naira would be
used to expand structures at the Sir
Yahaya Specialist Memorial Hospital
Birnin-Kebbi, while 94 Million Naira
would be expended on the extension
of Argungu General Hospital.
Alhaji Usman Umar Kambaza said a
total of 1.6 Billion Naira has been
approved by the Executive Council
on the rehabilitation of the General
Hospitals in Yauri, Koko, Zuru,
Dirin Daji, Jega, Kamba, Illo,
Bagudo, Zauro, Wasagu, Kambaza
and Bunza.
The Commissioner said the
incumbent administration of
Senator Atiku Bagudu has been
consistence in paying counterpart
funding to support health care
services to improve nutrition intake
of children as well as maternal and
child health.
Also briefing newsmen as it
pertains to his Ministry, the
commissioner for Higher Education
Alhaji Maigari Abdullahi Dakingari
said the Executive Council has
approved Phases One and Two of
accreditation of courses at the
College of
Agriculture Zuru as well improve
the dilapidated structures in view of
the level of decay of the college
which will consume about 164
Million Naira.
He said before now the college was
being run under temporary
accreditation, but the government
would secure permanent
accreditation to all courses at the
college. He said the renovation
would cover library complex,
poultry, electrical workshop,
agricultural engineering and water
supply.
The Commissioner announced that,
the council has approved and
expenditure of 19.4 Million Naira
for the repairs of burn Hostel at the
Federal Science Technical College,
Zuru gutted by fire sometimes ago,
which was visited by Governor
Atiku Bagudu to sympathize with
the student.
Alhaji Maigari Abdullahi said
approval was under way for the
completion of structures and the
provision of equipment to the
Adamu Augie College of Education
Argungu.
On his Ministry, the Commissioner
for Education Alhaji Muhamamdu
Magawata Aliero said the Council
has approved 1.6 Billion Naira
under the Ministry and 3.6 Billion
Naira under the State Universal
Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for
the rehabilitation of 25 Junior
Secondary Schools throughout the
State.
He said in addition the government
has paid more than 100 Million
Naira on the purchase of tables and
chairs for pupils and student in
consonance with the ideas of the
Atiku Bagudu administration to
providing conducive atmosphere for
teaching and learning.
The Commissioner for Water
Resources, Arc. Bala Sani Kangiwa
who also briefed the press on
outcome of the EXCO meeting
affecting his Ministry said 280
Million Naira has been expanded on
the supply of water to various part
of the State,
this include the sinking of motorize
and solar operation boreholes as
well as hand pumps.
He said under the Water Board,
153.7 Million Naira was used to
procure water treatment chemical
for water supply to Birnin Kebbi,
Zuru, Argungu and Yauri.
Arc. Bala Sani Kangiwa said 93.5
Million Naira has been approved for
the improvement of water supply to
Yauri town, while 36.7 Million Naira
would be spend on repairs of pipes
at Aliero Quarters Birnin Kebbi
displaced as a result of ongoing
road construction.
Under the Rural Electricity Board
which is being supervised by his
Ministry, the Commissioner said
189.9 Million Naira has been spent
on the purchase of transformers
repairs of high tension lines, the
connection of Equity FM Radio to
the National grid, which caused 6
Million Naira.
Similarly, the Council has approved
the improvement of electricity
supply to Gwandu town, and that
work has just started while 50
Million Naira was being spend to
electricity supply to the Adamu
Augie College of Education Argungu
of which 20% of work has been
recorded.
Briefing newsmen on projects under
his Ministry discussed at the council
meeting the Commissioner for
Works and Transport, Abubakar
Atiku Bunu said the repairs of
Koko-Mahuta-Dabai road has been
completed at the cost of more than
200 Million Naira. He said the
government has executed various
road projects that includes
construction of bridges, culverts,
and anti-erosion control measures
as well as completed the repairs of
the Bridge along Giro Road and the
bridge along Ka’oje-Illo road.
Similarly, the government spent 50
Million Naira to construct the bridge
on the Shema-Bakoshi Road
through army engineers.
It also constructed culverts in
Bunza, Kangiwa, Shagari Quarters
Gwadangaji, Maga-Ribah Road,
Ribah-Bena Road, Konar Dabai to
Zuru town as well as culverts in
Koko and Yauri.
On Federal road, the Commissioner
said the Kebbi State Government
was waiting the approval of the
Federal Government to begin work
on the Ganji-Ganar Zaima Zuru
Federal Road and the Augie Natsini-
to-Bui Federal Road.
He explained that the State
Government had initially received
approval to go ahead with work on
the roads, but consequently the
Federal Government sent a letter to
the State Government to stop
further action on the road until
further notice. He said the usual
practice was for State Governments
to get an approval to construct
Federal Roads under its territory
and later be reimbursed by the
Federal Government, but because
the Federal Government has not
completed the payment of such jobs
executed by other state
governments, was the main reason
it issue an order to Kebbi State to
suspend work till the near future.
The Executive Council meeting also
approved over 1.9 Billion Naira on
the construction of Birnin Kebbi-
Badariya-Kola-Wuro/Maliki-Zuguru
Road through 41 Division Nigerian
Army Corps of Engineers.
This week Executive Council
meeting presided by the Executive
Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku
Bagudu was attended by all
members including Commissioners,
Special Advisers, Secretary to the
State Government, Ag. Head of
Service and the Chief of Staff.
